UNDERSTAND YOUR TINT
The right shade. The right comfort.
Window film adds more than a finished look. It can reduce glare, help limit solar heat and filter UV rays. Your shade and film technology work together to shape the result.
01 / THE SHADE
What does VLT mean?
Visible Light Transmission (VLT) is the percentage of visible light that passes through. A lower percentage means a darker tint; a higher percentage lets in more light.
35% VLT35% of visible light passes through
20% VLT20% of visible light passes through
5% VLT5% of visible light passes through
Examples explain VLT, not recommended shades for every window. The glass and film together determine the final reading. Darker tint also reduces visibility in low light.
02 / THE TECHNOLOGY
Carbon or ceramic?
The same shade can offer different heat protection. Film technology matters as much as appearance.
EVERYDAY VALUE
Carbon
Carbon-based film balances comfort, appearance and cost.
- Helps reduce solar heat and glare.
- Offers UV protection and a non-reflective finish.
- Generally costs less than ceramic film.
A practical choice for style and everyday comfort.
ENHANCED HEAT CONTROL
Ceramic
Ceramic-particle technology places more emphasis on heat performance.
- Typically rejects more infrared heat than standard carbon film.
- Offers UV protection and glare reduction.
- Can provide strong heat rejection in lighter shades.
A premium choice when heat comfort is the priority.
Darker doesn’t always mean cooler.
VLT measures light, not heat rejection. Compare total solar energy rejection (TSER) at similar VLT levels to assess overall solar performance. Actual results depend on the specific film and glass.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
A few things to know.
How long does installation take?
Timing depends on your vehicle, the windows being tinted and whether old film needs removal. We’ll discuss the estimated time for your service before your appointment.
When can I roll down my windows?
Keep your windows up for the period recommended after installation. We’ll provide care instructions for your film, including when you can lower and clean your windows.
What if my vehicle already has tint?
Let us know before booking. Existing film may need to be removed before new film is installed. We’ll review its condition and confirm any removal work, extra time and cost before proceeding.
What happens if it rains?
If rain, wind or other conditions prevent a suitable installation, we’ll reschedule. If 863 Tints reschedules due to weather, your deposit will transfer to the rescheduled appointment.
What warranty comes with my tint?
Warranty terms depend on the film selected. Ask us to confirm the manufacturer’s coverage and any installation coverage before booking, including the terms and exclusions.
